Trae Young has Doc Rivers' record in his sights

This Sunday, the two best passers in the NBA challenge each other in a decisive Pacers – Hawks meeting for the Top 6 of the Eastern Conference. Face to face, Tyrese Haliburton and Trae Young, All-Stars this season. For the first, victory is imperative to hope to maintain this 6th place, or even finish 5th. For the second, it is a preparation match before the “play-in” against the Bulls. Young has only just returned to competition, and his playing time will undoubtedly still be limited. Unless Quin Snyder encourages him to break a franchise record.

This Sunday, Trae Young can become the best passer in Hawks history. So far, the All-Star point guard has distributed 3,856 career assists. That's ten fewer than the franchise record held by a certain Doc Rivers. Between 1983 and 1990, the current coach of the Bucks had accumulated 3,866 passes in the Atlanta jersey.

Constant progress, year after year

“It’s definitely something I wouldn’t take for granted,” Young said Saturday. “I'd be happy to do that and Doc joked about it with me at All-Star Weekend. It was fun, and so it would be nice.”

In his career, Young averages 9.5 assists, and he has the distinction of having always improved his average, from season to season. During his rookie year, he averaged 8.1 passes per game, and this year, he averaged 10.8 points!
