While the 2022/23 season only started a month and a half ago, the NBA is already working on the next one and The Athletic reports that there will be, as expected, some notable changes.
Already, the next regular season will start a little later than the current one, that is to say on October 24, 2023 (the current fiscal year started on October 18), and will end on April 14, 2024 (at place of April 9 in 2022/23).
Then, if this shift is planned, it is because the famous mid-season tournament should be integrated into the calendar from next year. At the same time increasing the number of matches per team to 80, against 82 currently (excluding exceptional cases). But the clubs that would participate in this tournament would play a few more.
For the time being, even if the NBA project has not yet been validated by the owners and the players’ union (probably for a story of bonuses), its main lines have already been drawn.
Thus, this tournament would take into account the meetings of the months of October then November and the eight best teams would then be qualified for a knockout phase, which would take place in December. Meanwhile, the other 22 teams would continue to play the regular season as normal.
