Toward a $160 million contract for LeBron James

JJ Redick inducted, the Lakers will be able to look into the Draft and the “free agency”, and the priority of priorities is obviously to complete the contract extension of LeBron James. Via a “ player option“, the four-time MVP has the possibility of giving up on a final season at $51.4 million to test the market, and according to ESPNhe will unsurprisingly extend his lease to the Lakers.

According to our colleagues, the Lakers will simply offer him the maximum possible, i.e. $160 million over three years. Which will tie him to the Lakers until June 2027, and he will be 42 and a half years old! ESPN specifies that LeBron can also decide to complete his contract, and extend it later, in August, with the possibility of signing a contract extension of $ 162 million over three years.

Beyond the additional two million, the difference is that he will not be able to add a “non-transfer” clause since you have to be a “free agent” to have the possibility of integrating it into your contract.

Player option : possibility for a player to activate (or not) the last year of his contract, in order to end his lease or become a “free agent” one year in advance.
