Toronto's WNBA franchise will be called the Tempo

Welcome to Tempo! Toronto's future WNBA franchise sent its birth announcement this Thursday and made its name official. This was chosen from 10,000 proposals, announced the franchise, which also revealed its logo which is reminiscent of that of the Pacers in the NBA, or the New Balance brand.

The first colors that we can see suggest a purple and sky blue identity.

As Canada's WNBA team, Tempo will set its own pace, move at a championship pace, and inspire people across the country. »

Designed in particular for the French-speaking Canadian community

The name Tempo was also chosen so that it could be adopted by both the English-speaking and French-speaking communities of Toronto, specifies the franchise press release.

The logo is made of a basketball marked with a T, and which seems to be in motion, with six lines representing the “Six”, nickname of the Canadian city popularized by the rapper Drake, and the conjugation of the five players on the floor with the public as the sixth man.

The Toronto Tempo will join the WNBA from the 2026 season, as the 14th franchise, one year after the start of the Golden State Valkyries, the first outside the United States. The team will play in the Coca-Cola Coliseum, an 8,500-seat room currently occupied by exhibitions and ice hockey with the Toronto women's team, the Scepters, and the B team of the Maple NHL franchise.
