While almost a week ago a second video of Ja Morant displaying a gun set the web ablaze, the NBA world is still in shock.
In their turn, Kevin Garnett And Tony Allen expressed their feelings following this new case. While Kevin Garnett questioned why Ja Morant was the only NBA player to do so, Tony Allen’s perspective was expected.
And as one could imagine, the one who helped shape the demanding and blue-collar spirit of the Grizzlies franchise, was very disappointed with the attitude of the new Memphis star, in addition to fearing for his safety.
“I would make it clear to him that guns are not one of the things we play with. I think if he’s so scared of something that he has a gun, he should need security.”, he said on the show “KG Certified”. “More than anything, you have to plan your movements well. When you go out and walk around, and you think you need a gun or go places where you think you need a gun, maybe it’s because you don’t have to go to these places. I say this from experience”.
Tee Morant solicited “every day”
As a former figure in the franchise, Tony Allen also said he was insistent on Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant, so he could help Ja get back on track.
“I contact his father every day. I’m like, ‘Hey man, I’m on your side. I’m around. I’m here if you need me. I went through everything he tries to represent. It can be something difficult”.
Propelled on a pedestal, with a lot of money and few limits, Ja Morant is obviously not well enough surrounded to manage this new environment. And while he awaits the sentence of the league, the Grizzlies having for the moment suspended from any activity related to the club, Tony Allen ensures that next summer will be decisive.
“A lot of these immature acts are due to money, being young and not knowing anything. He’s the highest paid family member, so it’s like he’s become the boss. A lot of people don’t give him the right advice for himself, that’s all. This summer will be a very important summer for him, for him to mature”.
