Tom Thibodeau looks favorably on the international experience of his players

The Knicks and Tom Thibodeau will have a bronze medalist on their roster next season. Indeed, RJ Barrett and Canada won the small final of the World Cup against the Americans, thus depriving his teammates in New York, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, of a charm.

However, the Knicks coach believes that the international experience of the two Team USA players will not be useless. He even takes the example of his early career on the benches to illustrate his point.

“It’s a good thing for young people, especially when we look at the past with the Olympic Games or the World Cup with Team USA”reacted Tom Thibodeau to the NBA website. “When Derrick Rose came back from the World Cup, he was voted MVP at 22 years old. »

The Bulls leader was voted best player of the 2010/11 season, while many of his young teammates during the successful campaign in 2010 had shone, like Kevin Durant, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook. The latter two were All-Stars for the first time in 2011 and the two Oklahoma City players took the Thunder to the conference final, against the Mavericks.

The former Chicago and Minnesota coach therefore only sees positive things to be gained from an international experience with the American selection for young talents.

“I also like the fact that the style of play is different, because it forces you to adapt,” he continues in particular. “We learn to play another game, to face foreign players. This also allows you to be operational for the training camp. The pros far outweigh the cons. Nobody plays 40 minutes and as the players present are all excellent, we train with the best. »
