Tobias Harris takes his revenge on the Philadelphia crowd

There is no doubt that Tobias Harris knew he was going to be coldly received in Philadelphia. Fans have not forgotten that the interior signed for $180 million over five seasons in 2019 without ever being an All-Star, nor having allowed the Sixers to reach a milestone. It was therefore a dear price to pay for such performances, which were often frustrating.

“It was an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world. It didn't work out the way I would have liked or the way the franchise wanted, because we didn't win the title.”, comments the new Detroit player.

Obviously, the spectators at the Wells Fargo Center decided to constantly boo Tobias Harris during the Pistons reception. Enough to worry the teammates of the former Philadelphian.

“It’s funny because a lot of players asked me how I was, but I knew what it looked like”, he reactedeven upsetting the audience at one point, asking for the boos to be even louder! “I took advantage of it. When I played here it was difficult to live with, but here I wanted to take a different approach and accept it. »

“Fans have a bad reputation here because of their passion”

He did well since, since the start of this exercise, the strong winger was not very sharp with an average of 10 points at 34% shooting success. Against his former team, he had his best outing of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds and the Pistons won their first game of the campaign.

Therefore, Tobias Harris killed three birds with one stone: a good match on a personal level, a victory for Detroit and finally a little revenge against the demanding Sixers fans.

“Fans have a bad reputation here because of their passion. I've played in several cities and Philadelphia is one of the teams where you can be whistled by your own fans. But we can also meet at a restaurant and they put their baby in your arms for a photo,” he tempers. “They are passionate basketball fans, who want their team to play well, but who can also hurt you, that much is clear. »
