To save money, the Clippers let Eric Gordon slip away

While they had brought him in by dropping Luke Kennard, John Wall and a “swap” on a first round of Draft during the last “trade deadline”, the Clippers chose not to guarantee the contract ofEric Gordon.

According to ESPN, Los Angeles thus lets slip the 34-year-old veteran, who had averaged 11 points, 42% from afar, in his 11 games under the direction of Tyronn Lue. His arrival was therefore a short-term gamble, as his $21 million contract for the next season was too much for the Clippers to cash in on.

It must be said that by refusing to guarantee it, Steve Ballmer drastically reduced his “luxury tax”, which went from 169 to 59 million dollars. That’s $130 million in savings (salaries + taxes), in total…

Eric Gordon free agent, and therefore free to sign wherever he wishes, Terance Mann And Bones Hyland should be given more responsibility, while the Clippers will have almost no room for maneuver to recruit this summer. They still hope to keep Russell Westbrook, via a salary of 3.8 million dollars.
