Upon arriving at the Kings, Domantas Sabonis was forced to give up his number 11, the one he wore in Indiana, in homage to his father, Arvydas, for the number 10. Indeed, in Sacramento, the #11 has been retired for more than thirty years, to celebrate the career of Bob Davies.
This playmaker had the heyday of the ancestors of the Kings, the Rochester Royals, at the beginning of the history of the NBA, between 1948 and 1955, compiling an average of 14.3 points, with four participations in the All-Star Game. He was notably NBA champion in 1951 and a member of the Hall of Fame since 1970.
However, the Lithuanian will change his number next season and wear this retired number. How is it possible ? By receiving authorization from the family of the former player, who died in April 1990.
“Given the Sabonis family’s special connection to the number 11, we thought it was appropriate to share our father’s number with Domantas and wish him every success”, explains Camy Davies Keckthe daughter of Bob Davies.
“No. 11 has a special place for me and my family. I wore it during my career to honor my father. I'm incredibly grateful to Davies' family for sharing this issue.”thanks Domantas Sabonis.
