Time is running out for Mike Conley

His recent visit to Memphis, to celebrate his former teammate Marc Gasol, must have brought back good memories. Notably this conference final lost to the Spurs in 2013, alongside the Spaniard, Zach Randolph and the others. Mike Conley has never been back to this playoff stage since.

More than ten years later, the Wolves leader is 36 years old and he is aware that he no longer has many opportunities to go far in the final stages. “ I've never been in such a hurry. I don't think there's anyone on either team who wants it more than me », Says the veteran, also referring to the Suns, the Wolves' opponent in the first round.

A personal emergency that he did not hesitate to share with his playing partners, while the Wolves present themselves as ambitious as ever. “ I told the guys that, selfishly, they had to do it for me. Help me. Follow me because I don't have much longer. You all have forever, that's my feeling », Develops the playmaker, the oldest and most experienced on the team.

Wolves aim high

Remembering how hard it is to reach the conference finals, Mike Conley reminds his team of the need to enjoy every moment: “ We have a great team and a great opportunity that we don't want to waste. »

Rudy Gobert, 32, may display a similar mindset. He and his playmaker lost in the first round of the playoffs the last two seasons, with the Jazz jersey, then that of the Wolves.

This is happening now. I'm taking full advantage of this moment. I obviously have no plans to retire anytime soon. But I really believe we have a chance […] and I really believe that everyone in this locker room is aware of it », displays the Frenchman who has never been beyond second in the playoffs.

The gang of Mike Conley and Rudy Gobert will first have to overcome the obstacle of the Suns then, if they win, face the series winners of the Nuggets and Lakers to aim for this conference final.
