Tim Hardaway Jr. soon to be transferred by the Mavericks?

The Finals barely finished, the Mavericks are already looking (optimistically) towards next season and, while they have a priority to re-sign Derrick Jones Jr, they should also try to part ways with Tim Hardaway Jr.. Information that comes to us from Mark Stein.

Not particularly a surprise, when we know that the 32-year-old guard is coming off a playoff campaign where he was not really in Jason Kidd's rotation (4.4 points on 38% shooting, including 35% on 3- points), far from his role in the regular season (14.4 points at 40% shooting, including 35% at 3-points). Wary of his defense and his fluctuating skill, Jason Kidd had gradually sidelined him (13 minutes on average in the playoffs, compared to 27 in the regular season).

Holder of a guaranteed contract year for next season, to the tune of $16.2 million, Tim Hardaway Jr. will be free in a year and the leaders of Dallas therefore have every interest in exchanging him so as not to see him leave without compensation in a year. Especially since they don't have a lot of room to maneuver financially and “THJ” is one of the rare interesting bargaining chips of the Texan franchise.

The ideal would be to exchange him for Draft choices in a few days, just to get under the “luxury tax”, and thus recover a few million dollars to recruit, and especially keep, Derrick Jones Jr.
