Three newcomers to the players’ union board

On the sidelines of the visit of Bilal Coulibaly and Victor Wembanyama to its premises, the players’ union (NBPA) formalized the arrival of three reinforcements within its board of directors, already composed of CJ McCollum (president), Andre Iguodala ( director), Chrysa Chin (director), Serge Ibaka (director) and Tamika L. Tremaglio (executive director).

The three players named her Ricky Rubio, Jalen Rose and Grant Williams. Each has been highlighted in relation to their extra-sporting activities and charitable achievements, via different foundations. For Ricky Rubio, it was his foundation created in 2018 and aimed at supporting people and families affected by cancer in the United States and Spain that was mentioned. The “Ricky Rubio Foundation” also supports underprivileged young people and research to understand and cure lung cancer.

Retired, Jalen Rose also started a foundation in 2000 to give service to the local communities where he lived and played basketball. Eleven years later, he also established a public, open-enrollment, tuition-free high school in his hometown of Detroit.

As for Grant Williams, the least experienced of the trio, he quickly got involved in the union, particularly on issues of mental health of the players. In addition to being first vice-chairman of the NBPA’s executive committee, he established the “Grant Williams Family Foundation” in 2022, which aims to educate financially, while providing mentorship and facilitating access to education in Charlotte.

“We are thrilled to be part of the NBPA Foundation and its mission to create positive change through the power of partnership. We are committed to using our collective influence and the professional basketball platform to have a lasting impact on our communities.”said Ricky Rubio, Grant Williams and Jalen Rose in a joint press release.
