This summer, Jamal Murray was really able to work on his game

A few weeks after winning the NBA title, Jamal Murray transported himself to another universe: that of MMA and the UFC. The Nuggets playmaker is indeed friends with fighter Alexander Volkanovski and the NBA champion supported him for his fight in July.

And again recently, at the beginning of September, tells us the New York Times, the player trained with Alexander Volkanovski in Sidney. But perhaps the most important thing for Jamal Murray is not the physical aspect of his offseason.

“I’m still on my way back”he confided in July, after missing the 2021/22 season. “I didn’t have a full offseason to recover or train the way I wanted to. My last summer was spent working on the strength of my knee. That’s all, I didn’t work on my game.”

This did not prevent him from returning to an excellent level, forming a lethal duo with Nikola Jokic and above all winning the NBA title. But clearly, the season was long for him, especially after a blank year.

This is why Jamal Murray, in addition to being able to work on his game, decided not to pull the string this summer and did not participate in the World Cup with Canada.

“When I started training camp, I wanted to assess how my body would respond after a long and demanding season and whether I would be physically capable of competing at the highest level required for the World Cup,” he explained. “After consulting with the team medical staff, it became clear that I needed more time to recover. »
