After Toronto (2021-2023) and two small matches in Boston last season, Justin Champagnie will have another opportunity to show himself in the NBA. This time, it was the Wizards who recruited Julian Champagnie’s twin brother to a ten day contract.
Over the past two seasons, the 22-year-old winger has especially shone in the G-League, at the Sioux Falls Skyforce, a franchise affiliated with the Heat, averaging more than 22 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists this season over 32 games. He was invited by Miami to participate in training camp before being cut just before the start of the regular season.
His activity in the G-League, including an outing with 33 points and 14 rebounds against the Iowa Wolves at the beginning of the month, finally convinced the Wizards to call on him to tackle a muscular recovery.
Between now and March 1, Washington will have to play six matches, four of which are away on the floor of big teams, starting with Denver tomorrow evening then Oklahoma City the next day. This will perhaps be an opportunity for Justin Champagnie, in a team which is approaching the end of the season without any particular challenge, except to begin the best possible reconstruction for the future…
