Adrian Wojnarowski has announced the signing of a new reinforcement for the bench of Wes Unseld Jr, in Washington. It is Brian Keefean NBA assistant for 17 years, first at Spurs as a video coordinator in 2006/07 and then at Oklahoma City where he spent eight years, specializing in defense in the early 2010s.
Then passed by the Knicks and the Lakers before returning to the Thunder in 2019, Brian Keefe was assistant to the Nets for the last two years as defense boss, before being thanked at the end of the season.
The connection with the new management of the Wizards was made easily since the new president of basketball operations, Michael Winger, and his GM, Will Dawkins, also studied in Oklahoma City in the early 2010s, where they rubbed shoulders with Brian Keefe.
Note that Brian Keefe was also a candidate for the position of head coach of the Pistons this offseason.
The Washington Wizards are hiring Brian Keefe as an assistant coach, sources tell ESPN. Keefe, who spent the past two seasons on the Nets’ staff, also interviewed for the Pistons’ head coaching job this spring.
