The Warriors will never change Draymond Green

Already back to the wall after the two losses in Sacramento, the Warriors would undoubtedly have preferred to do without bad news like that of the suspension of Draymond Green for Game 3.

The Golden State player was the author of a nasty gesture on Domantas Sabonis in Game 2 and, when deciding, the NBA explained that the heavy record of the quadruple champion had weighed in the balance. How did the California franchise react?

“We have already been there”, assures Bob Myers, the GM of the Warriors, to ESPN. “When the decisions are made, there is no court of appeal. It’s over. We can react as much as we want, it does not change the fact that he will not play this match. It doesn’t matter what we think of it. »

“He exceeded the limits, he was punished”

And there’s no appeal court either with Draymond Green. The interior has always had this behavior and the years have not helped. Isn’t that frustrating?

“He exceeded the limits, he was punished for it”, recalls Myers. “Draymond isn’t perfect, no one is. He played an important role in our victories and his mistakes are known to everyone. Each time he made a misstep, I always hoped that he learned the lessons from it. He will say he made mistakes, he can’t hide, everyone saw it. He has a good background, I know that. In particular, he made a mistake with a teammate. What he has done for the franchise is indisputable, without him we wouldn’t have won titles, but he is a complicated man. »

Even Steve Kerr, despite having worked with him for almost ten years now, is helpless against Green’s attitude, which always ends up exploding even at the worst moment, like in the 2016 Finals or during these playoffs.

“We don’t have time to worry about that or complain,” begins the coach on the suspension of his interior. “He’s a huge competitor and everyone knows he sometimes goes overboard. We can’t stop him, we can’t take him by the neck and tell him we’re going to move on. It does not work like that. We can’t control all of this. He has crossed the line over the years, but that’s part of the game. We will fight for him. »
