Last month the Warriors lost and cried Alvin Attlesdied at the age of 87. The former player, coach and GM of Golden State spent his life or almost within this franchise and above all made history by winning, on the bench, the NBA title in 1975 against the Washington Bullets.
“His DNA is everywhere in this franchise. He will always be in our hearts and on the ceiling of the room, with his number 16″, Stephen Curry reacted. “He is the original Warrior. Mr. Warrior,” added Steve Kerr.
The Warriors have therefore decided to pay homage to Alvin Attles throughout the season, wearing a patch with his number 16. A gesture similar to that of the Lakers, with the number 44 of Jerry West, who disappeared in June, or the Magic, with Pat Williams, the former GM of the Orlando franchise.
This will not be the only tribute paid for the Warriors legend since, during the first home game, on October 27 against the Clippers, a moment of silence will be observed and a tribute video projected.
The Warriors will honor franchise legend Alvin Attles with a '16' band on their uniforms throughout the 2024-25 season. Attles, who spent more than 60 years with the franchise as a player, coach, executive and ambassador, passed away on August 20 at the age of 87. pic.twitter.com/Akzxx1UaBi
