It's not just Wolves who find themselves in a very difficult financial situation this summer. THE Warriors also have a huge payroll, including more than $100 million to drop next season for the salaries of three players: Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins.
If we add the other players in the squad, plus the 30 million (non-guaranteed) of Chris Paul, who could stay, and finally the prospect of extending Klay Thompson, we are therefore well above the authorized limit. Already this season, the franchise has paid 172 million dollars in “luxury tax”, in addition to 205 million in salary!
Except that the owner of the franchise, Joe Lacob, has said it: he now wants to save money. To succeed in tightening their belts, the Warriors therefore hired a specialist in “salary cap” issues, we learnin the person of John Phelps.
The latter will replace Onsi Saleh, who was the strategic vice-president of the franchise, who has just gone to Atlanta to become assistant GM of the Hawks. Jon Phelps is coming off two seasons as senior director of strategy for the Pistons. He was also GM of Detroit's G-League team, the Grand Rapids Drive.
