The Warriors’ outward signs of weakness

Seven matches, seven defeats. That’s the Warriors’ record on the road this season, and it’s unheard of for an NBA champion since the Mavericks in 2012. It’s a first for the Warriors since 1989. Stephen Curry was a year old!

Last night, Stephen Curry’s teammates lost in Sacramento (122-115) in a room where they used to win. But the 2022/23 Warriors, even at full strength, are failing to raise their level of play away from their Chase Center, and that’s obviously worrying.

“We just have to realize that the margin of error on the move is much thinner if we want to win matches. So we have to find a solution.” explains Draymond Green.

However, the defending champions had made the best start with a lead of 13 points, and then, as soon as Curry rests, it’s a disaster, especially in the management of the ball (8 balls lost in 12 minutes…). When he comes back into play, there are only five points left, and the “momentum” has changed sides.

“We have always been a team that loses a lot of balls” recalls Steve Kerr. “Even when we won titles, we lost a lot of balls. But there is a time and a place to lose them. There are some that we accept, and others that we must eliminate. We will continue to work on that. »

What must be avoided are stray balls which give easy points. Tonight, the Kings scored 26 points on stray balls from the Warriors.

“We can convince ourselves that we should be at 50% of victories given how the matches have gone, but we are at 0v-7d”recalls Curry. “We showed a lot more desire tonight, a little more consistency, trying to maintain the momentum throughout the evening. You just have to find a way to hold on for an entire match, knowing that the other team will feed on their public and that they will probably play better than expected. You have to respond to this intensity, especially in defence. It’s very disappointing to be at 0-7”.

For lovers of stats of all kinds, know that no team has won the title after starting the season with seven straight away defeats… “I think we are going in the right direction” tempers Kevon Looney. “I have the feeling that this match was much better than the others on the road. We just have to progress collectively, continue to improve and I think the victories will come.

Next attempt, Wednesday in Phoenix. It will be very complicated…
