With a full infirmary on both sides (Curry, Wiggins, Melton, McCollum, Jones, Murphy III…), the match took a very different turn from that of the day before. The Warriors are in the lead but their five turnovers and the seven offensive rebounds left to the Pelicans allow Jose Alvarado's teammates (16 points) to stay in ambush (28-20).
Despite Golden State's good defense on Zion Williamson (12 points on 5/20 shooting, 12 rebounds) and Brandon Ingram (14 points), seven new lost balls allowed Jordan Hawkins (23 points) to launch a 16-6 lead. New Orleans (36-34). Draymond Green (14 points, 6 assists, 5 blocks, 4 rebounds) then wakes up the Warriors and a winning shot from Buddy Hield (21 points) at the last second of the half gives them a four-point lead at the break ( 48-44).
Steve Kerr's men step on the accelerator as soon as they return from the locker room. Carried by the pair Trayce Jackson-Davis (15 points, 9 rebounds) – Draymond Green, the Warriors started the third quarter with a 19-6 lead to take a 17-point lead (67-50). Seven points from Brandon Ingram stop the bleeding but Brandin Podziemski (13 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists) and Buddy Hield keep Golden State firmly in the lead (79-66).
So far discreet, Jonathan Kuminga (16 points) attacks the opposing defense successfully and the gap reaches 20 units (91-71)! Like the day before, it was Buddy Hield who put the exclamation point on the Warriors' great victory. Golden State is therefore stocking up on confidence before leaving for a five-game road trip away. The Pelicans will quickly have to recover.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Draymond Green’s defensive masterclass. The day before, Zion Williamson (31 points on 12/19 shots) seemed unstoppable when he didn't lose the ball. He had systematically been able to attack by starting on his left hand and even Draymond Green had not been able to do anything. This night, Green focused on his left hand and Williamson could never find his rhythm. At the break, the Pelicans star had scored 4 points on 2/12 shots. Green continued his defensive display in the second half, and Steve Kerr sent quicker assists to back him up. Zion Williamson finished the match with only 12 points on 5/20 shots!
– Pelicans offense still down. Tuesday, it was the second knives who failed to support Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. This night, it was the entire New Orleans collective that got through it, unable to put Golden State's defense in difficulty. With the exception of Jose Alvarado and Jordan Hawkins, who each made four 3-pointers, the Pelicans were 3/14 from distance and remain one of the teams that takes on average the fewest 3-pointers (32) of all the league.
– The Warriors confirm their good start to the season. Like last night, the Warriors did not let a complicated first half, this time with 12 lost balls and 10 offensive rebounds conceded, prevent them from signing their fourth victory in five games. It is once again thanks to their collective, with 7 players at 8 points or more and 33 assists, and an intractable defense that they dominated the Pelicans for a second time in a row without Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins or De'Anthony Melton. This night, they also dominated in the paint with 56 points scored against 34 for their opponents.
