The day after the announcement of the creation of a 15th franchise, on the Portland side, the WNBA is playing its last day of the regular season this Thursday evening. The twelve teams are on deck for this last day, and there are several issues at stake.
First, there is the fight for the 8th and final qualifying place for the playoffs. The Atlanta Dream (14v-25d) have their destiny in their own hands, with one more win than the Sky (13v-26d) and the Mystics (13v-26d). But the Dream travels to the leader, the New York Liberty. For its part, the Sky travels to the Connecticut Sun, who are defending their 3rd place. As for the Mystics, they host Caitlin Clark's Fever, who are sure to finish 6th.
In the event of a tie between the three franchises, the Mystics will have the tie-breaker.

Another challenge: 3rd place. Held by the Sun, it is coveted by the Aces. The Sun, who host the Sky, have their destiny in their hands to keep this 3rd place, and face the Fever in the first round. For their part, the two-time reigning WNBA champions welcome the Wings, already on vacation.
For now, here is the (incomplete) playoff table, with the first round being played as the best of three games.
(1) Liberty – Dream, Sky or Mystics (8)
(4) Sun or Aces – Storm (5)
(3) Sun or Aces – Fever (6)
(2) Lynx – Mercury (7)
