The Sixers are getting used to Nick Nurse’s new methods

After the Raptors, Nick Nurse embarked on a new adventure at the Sixers. Arriving in complicated conditions with in particular the James Harden case to manage, the technician took advantage of the start of the training camp to return to the fundamentals and instill his touch, in order to get his new group up to speed.

For the moment, the coach said he was satisfied with the progress made, even if there is still a lot to work on. Tonight’s match should, for example, be the scene of Joel Embiid’s big debut to launch his 2023/24 season, while others, like Furkan Korkmaz, should still wait before seeing the floor again.

DJ Ghost to boost training

Close to returning to the game, the Turkish sniper spoke about the specificities of his new coach. He was thus invited to compare it to the methods of Doc Rivers, who was visibly a little more flexible on a daily basis in terms of training. With Nick Nurse, the word intensity would have regained its full meaning.

“It’s almost as if the training always continues. You don’t really stop training. Each time we finish an exercise, we move on to the next one, and then the next one. You don’t walk around drinking water on the sidelines. We’re just ready to go.”, he explained.

Furkan Korkmaz also noted the presence of DJ Ghost, the official DJ of the Sixers, who sends music to boost the players, and who congratulates them via sound effects.

“When you get there, it’s just practice time, and we’re ready to go.” A lot of things change when you see that DJ Ghost is there. I think it will be very positive for us (…). That’s good, but I’m going to tell Ghost to put on some Turkish music to motivate me too! “.

Lots of elements to integrate in a short time

As described by Danny Green, ready to act as a “translator” with the Sixers, he who has already played under the orders of Nick Nurse in Toronto, the new strong man of Philly is a ” free spirit “ who knows ” go off the beaten track “and therefore does not hesitate to innovate.

As the principles of play and terminology need to be reviewed for the entire group, the presence of Danny Green in relay is more than beneficial, in order to help everyone move forward at the same pace.

“He knows Nick Nurse, he knows who he is, he knows his style. So he can tell the guys what the coach wants without having to ask him,” said Tyrese Maxey.

In this sense, the “training camp” is perhaps more intense in Philly than elsewhere in view of all the new things for the players to assimilate, as recalled by De’Anthony Melton.

“It’s true that each system is different and it’s sometimes difficult to assimilate, but it’s a new coach, a new staff, so you also have to put this kind of thing in place. It’s not rocket science and we just go out there and have fun and play hard.”

The Sixers still have around ten days to ramp up for the first regular season match. It will be October 26 on the Bucks floor of the Lillard-Antetokounmpo tandem.
