The promises of the duo Cade Cunningham – Jaden Ivey

The tenth victory of the season for the Pistons bears the seal of a strong choice from Monty Williams. In the second half against Brooklyn, the coach relied on his duo Cade CunninghamJaden Iveyby making them play together a lot, which is not necessarily his habit.

Detroit simply didn't play a single second after the break without at least one of the two on the floor and, in its 24 minutes, they scored 41 points in total (22 for Cunningham, 19 for Ivey).

In the third quarter, the Pistons and Nets exchange baskets when Ivey comes out eight minutes into the game. In theory, Cunningham should follow. But the first choice of Draft 2021 remains on the floor, and it is a good choice by the coach since the leader is omnipresent and Detroit goes 14-6 before starting the last quarter.

After playing the entirety of this third act, Cade Cunningham already has more than 30 minutes on the clock, averaging 33 this season.

“There is a debate between me and me”, entrusts Monty Williams. “I think about it constantly. Having him play 38 minutes every night is not something you want, but there, I felt that he needed to stay with this group so that we keep the good dynamic. And the fourth quarter group had to hold out until the others returned. »

An interesting avenue for the Pistons?

To hold on will be Jaden Ivey’s mission. The latter returns to the floor while his teammate blows. And like Cunningham who was at the origin of all the baskets of the 14-6 in the third quarter, Ivey imposes himself in 12 of the 13 points of the Pistons, before the return of the playmaker five minutes later. His teammate then scored 13 points in the last seven minutes of the game.

The two men have clearly made the difference and seem seduced by the idea of evolving together. “It was really good for us”, notes Cunningham who compiled 32 points and 11 assists when Ivey scored 32 points. Both players shot 10/17 at 3-points as well.

“We just played our game. We continued to take the right shots, to make the right choices,” explains Ivey. “I find that when we are together on the field, it will offer open shots for each other. But we continue to make the right choices for the team. It's good for us. We have to keep looking at the footage to see how we can improve. But that's how we want to end the matches, like this meeting. »
