The Pistons give the Clippers the greatest gift

Can we win a match 14 points behind with three minutes to go? It had been 1,467 games in a row that the answer was negative, but the Clippers achieved this incredible feat of winning in Detroit despite this delay at the start of “money time”. Led 126-112 three minutes from the end, the Clippers sign a 16-2 to complete the 4th quarter, and thus snatch the extension. It was Terance Mann who scored the equalizing basket five seconds from the end when Tyronn Lue had whistled the start of “garbage time”!

A real blow for the Pistons who collapse in overtime as they cash a 14-3 in five minutes. It was Alec Burks who had started the hostilities in the extra period, but the Pistons will miss five shots in a row and lose three balls, to let Paul George and Luke Kennard complete this miraculous victory (142-131). Over the last eight minutes, the Pistons have conceded a terrible 30 to 5!

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

A rare reversal. Since 1996, only two teams have managed to win a match despite being 14 points behind with three minutes remaining. Two teams out of… 12,875 matches! The Clippers thus become the 3rd formation to achieve this, and they join in history the Hawks of 1997 against the Magic, and the Kings of 2020 against the Wolves.

Black beast. The Clippers remain on eight straight wins against the Pistons. Never had Killian Hayes’ teammates been so close to ending these four years of scarcity. The Clippers haven’t lost to Detroit since January 2019.

TOPS/FLOPS

✅ The Clippers bench. Luke Kennard, Terance Mann, Amir Coffey, Nicolas Batum and Moses Brown. They are the ones who snatched the extension when Tyronn Lue had kicked off the “garbage time”, to breathe his holders in anticipation of tonight’s game in Toronto. This five will sign a 16-2 in four minutes to win the extension.

✅ Luke Kennard. His coach and his teammates ask him to shoot more, and the former Piston punished his former team with 18 points on 6 of 12 on shots.

✅ Isaiah Stewart. Shifted to position 4, alongside Jalen Duren, he made his exterior address appreciated on pick-and-pop. It was he who woke up his teammates when the Pistons were trailing by 15 points in the 3rd quarter, and it was he again who gave a 14-point lead at the start of “money time”.

✅ ⛔ Killian Hayes. The Frenchman is more and more confident, and he shoots 17 times! Paradoxically, it was at 3-points that he was most effective, but his four loss of balls are expensive, including one in the “money time” that Nico Batum transforms into 3-points, as well as this missed shot at 20 seconds from the siren.
