The double confrontation of the week between the Pacers and the Pelicans started in Indianapolis before leaving for Louisiana and, at home, the teammates of Tyrese Haliburton (17 points, 13 assists) and Pascal Siakam (24 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists) behaved like bosses to achieve victory (123-114). Their fourth in five games.
Despite Brandon Ingram (30 points), Zion Williamson (23 points) or CJ McCollum (23 points), Indiana attacked his match with flying colors, to no longer look in his rearview mirror for the evening and simply put a push back into the “money-time”, when New Orleans hoped to succeed heist. In vain.
A logical and deserved success for the Pacers therefore, still 7th in the East but tied with 5th (Miami), while the Pelicans find themselves 6th in the West but more than ever under threat from 7th (Dallas) and the 8th (Sacramento).
TO REMEMBER
– Tyrese Haliburton forces decision. Renowned for his qualities as a scorer/passer, Tyrese Haliburton has not forgotten to make them speak in the “money-time”. Because when the Pelicans came back to within one possession (112-109) three minutes from the end, the leader took the game into his own hands to put the Pacers out of harm's way. First, on a “stepback-3”. Then, on four assists for Pascal Siakam (three times) and Myles Turner (once). The gap thus went back above ten points with these five consecutive possessions crowned by a basket. Game over.
– New Orleans quickly on the ropes. Punished in particular by Tyrese Haliburton, but also Pascal Siakam, the Pelicans may have some regrets about their start to the match. Failed, this forced them to chase the score throughout the evening, because they took on water in the first quarter (40-24) then very quickly fell 20 points behind, without ever leading a the encounter. Clearly dominated under the boards (50-40 on the rebound and 14-7 on the offensive rebound), perhaps Willie Green's men would have been inspired to rely more on Jonas Valanciunas, very little used (seven minutes).
