For once, the reason is not political, but purely agenda-driven. Reigning champions, the Nuggets will not make the traditional visit to the White House. According to journalist Chris Haynes, who reports the informationthe reception was initially scheduled to take place at the end of last January, as is customary.
Except that the Biden administration, due to a calendar conflict, had to push the date back to March 18. Colorado's players obviously don't have a game scheduled that day, but the date falls in the middle of a series of away games.
The day before, on the 17th, Nikola Jokic and his gang were traveling to Dallas, then especially on the 19th, they went to Minnesota to challenge the current best team in the West. Inserting a trip to Washington, where the Nuggets already played on January 21, in between seemed perilous.
Especially since this meeting between the Wolves and the Nuggets will have a definite stake in the battle for first place. A first place that the reigning champions, who are a small victory behind, say they are thinking about, without wanting to jeopardize their health. Depriving themselves of this highly symbolic visit is still a good indicator of their desire to reach the summit.
We recall that last year, the Warriors were received at the White House by Joe Biden, after not going there during the years of Donald Trump's presidency.
