Good little match at the end of the regular season between a team which is still fighting to reach the playoffs without going through the play-in, and another which has practically nothing left to play. Which resulted in a nice little spanking distributed by the Pacers to the poor Nets.
Like against the Lakers the day before, Brooklyn completely missed its start to the match, this time conceding a 15-0 in less than 3 minutes to already shoot itself in the foot (15-4). Alongside a Tyrese Haliburton who was skilled in scoring and inspired in passing, Indiana was able to get their hands on the match without forcing themselves too much, benefiting from the relays of Pascal Siakam, Myles Turner then the McConnell-McDermott pair when Rick Carlisle opened his bench. Enough to send the Nets on the ropes at the end of the first act (43-27).
A long “garbage time”
The efforts of the Thomas-Bridges duo hardly weighed in the balance, and Indiana was able to continue its offensive without being upset, between the 3-pointers of Andrew Nembhard and Pascal Siakam then the brilliant shots of Tyrese Haliburton found, to lead 75-47 at the break.
Jalen Smith's festival after returning from the locker room quickly confirmed the trend, especially as Tyrese Haliburton and Aaron Nesmith followed suit to help extend the gap beyond 30 points following an 11-0 (99- 66). Which led to an end to the match without any issues, a 15-minute “garbage time” during which Brooklyn was up to 36 units behind on a 2+1 from Ben Sheppard (106-70) to finally lose 133-111. The two teams will meet again tomorrow, in Brooklyn this time. To see if the Nets will have a little more self-esteem…
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– A recurring illness. Clearly, Brooklyn is having trouble starting matches! The day before, Kevin Ollie's team attacked the Lakers 17-0. The start of this match in Indiana was at least as catastrophic, notably with a 15-0 conceded in less than three minutes and a first act completed with 43 points in the nose. Enough to give the entire Pacers squad confidence, including 14 assists in 12 minutes and a match made easier by the errors of the Nets on both sides of the floor.
– Tyrese Halibuzz. The leader of the Pacers is coming out of a trying month of March, in particular because of his 3-point skills at half-mast (27.3% success in 7.3 attempts per match!). With the return of good weather, the leader of Indiana regained some of his splendor as he signed one of his best individual performances of 2024 with 27 points and 13 assists. He stood out in particular for his perfect start to the match with 14 points on 5/5 shooting including 3/3 from 3-point range. Encouraging for the future, given the importance of the upcoming deadlines.
– Myles’ finger turned. A few seconds before halftime, Myles Turner had to quickly leave his teammates after a foul by Trendon Watford on a dunk attempt. The Pacers center then quickly realized that he had dislocated the index finger of his right hand, rushing to the locker room so that it could be put back in place. Rick Carlisle's timeout was enough for the staff to allow him to return to shoot his two free throws, taken by Turner with his left hand. He then came out immediately, and the progress of the match allowed coach Carlisle to leave him on the bench until the end.
