The NBA continues its expansion into Africa and has this time targeted Kenyan territory, in order to accelerate the process of developing basketball in this East African country.
In the presence of Mark Tatum, the President of Kenya, William Ruto, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Sports, Ababu Namwamba, signed a memorandum of understanding with the NBA aimed at boosting the practice of basketball.
This historic agreement for the country notably includes the development of talents in schools, the training of local coaches and the renovation of infrastructure and basketball courts in schools and neighborhoods. A new room capable of hosting large events will also have to see the light of day. Why not BAL matches, when Kenya had a representative in the “African NBA” last season (KPA).
Finally, to properly supervise the implementation of this monumental project, the NBA also announced the opening of an office in Nairobi from November. This will then be the fourth NBA office officially established in Africa, after Johannesburg (South Africa), Dakar (Senegal) and Lagos (Nigeria).
Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Basketball Association (@NBA) that will see phenomenal development of Basketball in Kenya.
