The NBA has asked franchises to play more on Sundays

The design of an NBA calendar is a real headache since it is necessary to take into account the availability of rooms, TV programming or competition from other US sports. To make matters worse, the NBA has added a tournament during the season with six different pools!

This season, the league had an additional requirement as it asked franchises to free up at least four Sundays for the regular season. The reason ? The schedule is tighter with a resumption on October 24, and the addition of the NBA Cup.

The Jazz have not played at home on a Sunday since 2001

Some teams are accustomed, in particular to playing in the “matinee”, on Sunday morning. But for a franchise like Jazz, it’s almost unprecedented. THE Deseret News reports that Utah hadn’t played at home on Sundays since January 2001!!! At the time, Karl Malone and John Stockton were still on the floor.

More than 22 years later, on November 19, Lauri Markkanen’s teammates will face the Suns in front of their home crowd. Then in 2024, they will host the Bucks on Sunday February 4, and the Spurs on February 25.
