Even if the adjective is overused in the NBA, we can still speak of a “historic” performance for Jordan Clarkson. Already on a personal level since the 6th man of Jazz signed his first career triple-double last night with 20 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds against the Mavericks! Also historic on a collective level since it is the first triple-double of a Jazz player since February 13, 2008, and it was Carlos Boozer!
“It’s a nice little line to put on my list” reacted the former Lakers and Cavaliers back. “But until the last bounce, I was a little nervous.”
A time-out to celebrate your performance
Two minutes from the end, and after several failures, Clarkson will snatch this famous 10th rebound, synonymous with a triple-double. He will keep the ball in his hands, call a time-out, and cause a standing ovation!
It must be said that Jazz fans have been waiting for this for almost 16 years. This is an incredible stat when we know that the triple-double has become an almost daily performance in recent years. Last season, the NBA experienced its 7th season in a row with at least 100 triple-doubles!
“Jordan has adapted to a new role and is really trying to expand his scope to help win,” explains Will Hardy, the Jazz coach. “It’s not just about scoring points. If I had to name anyone from our team to end the series, I would have chosen Jordan.”
A first for a Jazz replacement since 1983!
We still specify that it is in the regular season since in 2018, Ricky Rubio broke this drought in the playoffs. But the NBA does not take into account performances in the playoffs when counting statistics, whether triple-doubles, or simply points and assists.
Finally, it's also historic because Clarkson achieved his feat coming off the bench! This is obviously rare in general, but it is even more so in Utah since it had not been achieved since 1983, and it was Mark Eaton with 12 points, 14 rebounds and 12 blocks.
