The meteoric progression of Shaedon Sharpe

Good news for the leaders of the Blazers and of course the fans, Shaedon Sharpe is not just an exceptional dunker! At only 20 years old, the Canadian took advantage of the misfortunes of certain teammates (Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons) to establish himself in the starting five, and he greatly justifies the confidence of Chauncey Billups. With doubled playing time, he… doubled his points and rebounds stats, and even tripled his assists. Unfortunately, he also tripled his lost balls.

Stats that are not linear, and The Oregonian found that the presence of Malcolm Brogdon was essential for Sharpe. Before the best 6th man in the NBA was injured in early November, Sharpe was averaging 20.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.6 turnovers, 45% shooting and 38% 3-point shooting.

Too much responsibility, too soon

When Brogdon joined the infirmary, from November 12 to 19, Sharpe's numbers took a hit: 14.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 4.2 loose balls on 34% shooting and 27% on 3-pointers. “He was tired” defends him Chauncey Billups. “I made him play so much that he was exhausted. But as soon as Malcolm comes back, all of a sudden he's taking easier, better shots. Anfernee comes back and suddenly it's different. We then find a classic and regular Shaedon. »

Confirmation that the presence of Brogdon is essential, since the return of his teammate, Sharpe is averaging 19.5 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2.3 loose balls, 45% on shots and 39% on 3-pointers. “Fatigue plays a big role, but getting back into training and doing reps helps too,” notes Sharpe, who also appreciates the presence of Simons. “When he's there, he offers a lot more space on the pitch, and he knows how to find his teammates. »
