The Mavericks feel like they’ve ‘destroyed’ the Draft

We wondered what Dallas was going to do with its 10th draft pick. Finally, GM Nico Harrison and his staff maneuvered perfectly to get the most out of it.

They thus traded him to Oklahoma City to go down, reclaiming the 12th pick. An operation that allowed them to get rid of the Davis Bertans contract ($17 million next year and a “player option” of $16 million in 2024/25) by recovering a “trade exception” of $17 million dollars on the way.

A great operation on the financial level, and on the sporting level because, with their 12th choice, the Mavericks got their hands on the player they coveted anyway, the pivot Derek Lively II!

But the evening was not over for Dallas, who used his “trade exception” to absorb the contract of Richaun Holmes, who came from the Kings, while also getting his hands on the 24th choice of the Draft. Enough to allow them to recover Olivier-Maxence Prosper, a strong winger whose defensive profile should also help the team.

All smiles, Nico Harrison could explain having the feeling of having “destroyed the Draft”. Because he transformed his only choice into three interesting players, while getting rid of Davis Bertans…

“We are not finished at all” he let go thus, reassembled like a cuckoo clock after this very beautiful evening. ” This is just the beginning. We will still fill in our gaps. We try to shake the tree. Anything we can do to improve this team, we will do. Everything is on the table. »

It therefore remains to manage the “free agency” of Kyrie Irving but Nico Harrison and his staff can have a smile.
