The Mavericks have their work cut out for them this summer. After missing the playoffs, they must quickly improve their squad in order to satisfy their superstar, Luka Doncic. One of the positions Dallas is looking to improve quickly is at center. As proof, after approaching the Cavaliers about Jarrett Allen, ESPN reports that the Mavericks have contacted the Hawks to secure the services of Clint Capela. Just like Jarrett Allen, the Swiss is a very good circle protector, but also a big rebounder. Over the past three seasons, Capela has consistently ranked in the top 5 of the league’s best rebounders with at least 11 rebounds taken per game on average. He was even the league’s leading rebounder with 14.3 catches per game in 2021.
The Mavericks don’t want to let go of their youngsters
In attack, he represents a constant threat on lob passes but also in pick-and-roll as we have seen with James Harden at the Rockets, then Trae Young. In short, Clint Capela has a profile that would fit perfectly with Luka Doncic’s style of play.
But now, unlike John Collins, Clint Capela seems to be an indispensable element for the Hawks, and Atlanta would have demanded in exchange Josh Green and / or Jaden Hardy to let go of his titular pivot. Offer categorically refused by the Mavericks, because Josh Green (22) and Jaden Hardy (20) are two of the best prospects in the franchise, and it is important to think about the future of the team. As a reminder, the two players had broken their career points records in the same game, in the absence of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, last February.
