The Lakers hung their “NBA Cup” banner

Six years to the day after hanging Kobe Bryant's numbers #8 and #24, the Lakers had a new banner to hoist from the ceiling of their room. That of the “NBA Cup” won at the beginning of December against the Pacers.

The Californians interrupted their warm-up during a short twenty-minute ceremony – neither Adam Silver nor Jeanie Buss was there – including a video of the best moments of the seven matches won by Los Angeles in this mid-season tournament.

“I think it’s great for this franchise,” reacted Darvin Ham to ESPN. “It’s obvious that the tournament is something that will last, that will become more and more important and better and better. I think it's really, really cool to do that. And above all to be the first to win the first tournament of the season. »

A banner like no other

So the Lakers hung an elegant black banner to celebrate. Special feature: it is vertical. This is not trivial since their banners to celebrate NBA titles are horizontal. And they are bigger too.

It is therefore one more banner, but it logically does not have the same strength nor the same dimension (in every sense of the word) as those of the others. She nevertheless has her story in the Los Angeles season.

” It is enormous. The intensity with which everyone played. You could feel it and it was great,” already remembers the Lakers coach. “Anytime we can compete with the best athletes in the world, it’s a good thing for the fans, for the franchise and for the NBA. »
