The women's “March Madness” matches, and more precisely those with Caitlin Clark and Iowa, have a string of big audience scores, and Friday evening, the semi-final against Connecticut posted historic scores. And the term is not overused since the (controversial) victory of Clark's teammates was followed by… 14.2 million viewers, with a peak of 17 million!
This is a record for a women's university game, and the old record dated from Monday with Iowa's victory against LSU with 12.3 million Americans in front of their small screen, and a peak of 16 million.
Neither the NBA nor baseball does better!
To get an idea of the exceptional score achieved by this meeting, you should know that today, only the NFL achieves such audiences in American sport. Thus, no round of the World Series, nor any game of the NBA Finals reached such an average last season. Nor even the Daytona 500 since 2013.
This Sunday evening, the final between Iowa and South Carolina could already bury this record since we are talking about a peak of 20 million viewers!
