The Hawks tried to recover Pascal Siakam…

And if Pascal Siakam will soon be leaving Raptors, the only franchise with which he has evolved so far? We are still far from it, but The Athletic reports that the leaders of Hawks would have approached their Canadian counterparts this summer, to recover the double Cameroonian All-Star.

In exchange, Atlanta would have offered De’Andre Hunter, AJ Griffin and draft picks, but Toronto would have preferred to reject this offer, which was not sufficient in his eyes. Since then, discussions between the two teams have been on hold.

At the end of the contract next summer, Pascal Siakam is eligible for a maximum extension with the Raptors: 192 million dollars over four years. Aged 29, he is certainly coming off the best campaign of his career (24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists), but the Ontario franchise does not seem in a hurry to re-sign him, because no discussion would have had place on this subject between the two camps.

For his part, the 2019 champion would absolutely not have expressed his desire to leave Canada, but he would also not be willing to extend where he would land in the event of an exchange. The situation around the 2019 MIP should therefore not settle anytime soon, while he is currently expected to be one of the main unprotected “free agents” of the 2024 off-season.
