The Hawks are back on the wheel hats on the teams still in contention for the “play-in” including Boston, which bit the dust in Georgia after a performance once again irregular.
Atlanta has indeed taken off by finishing the first act with a 12-2 with the help of the Williams-Gallinari tandem (32-20). Boston resisted better thereafter with the contribution of Robert Williams III in particular before plunging once again before the break following an 8-0 marked by the missiles of Trae Young and De’Andre Hunter at 3-pointers, relegating this times the C’s at -13 at halftime (60-47).
Boston returned with other intentions after the break and managed to pick up the score thanks in particular to its Brown-Tatum duo, the main architect of a 10-0 which put pressure on the premises (68-61).
Jayson Tatum’s two 3-pointers and Josh Richardson’s transition shot kept the suspense going until the start of the fourth quarter (80-77). Better, the Celtics even returned to a small point following a basket behind the arc of Jaylen Brown (83-82), before cracking again, in front of the mastery of Trae Young and Bogdan Bogdanovic, authors of 15 points to them two in the final including two 3-point missiles from the Serb who put an end to the suspense (105-88).
Entering at the very end of the game, Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot sealed the victory with a final 3-point basket, bringing the score to 108-92 and the Hawks’ series to six wins.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– The Young-Bogdanovic show in the finale. Chasing the score throughout a meeting as was the case with the Celtics can be energy-consuming. And as often, after having put all their strength to come back, the troops of Ime Udoka ended up cracking in beauty. In their defense, they came across a burning Young-Bogdanovic tandem. It took just over five minutes for the Hawks’ rear-wheel drive to finish the job, relegating Boston to 17 points with less than two minutes remaining. Clean and efficient.
– The contribution of the Hawks bench. Symbolized by the contribution of Bogdan Bogdanovic (19 points), he especially marked a big difference with the effectiveness of the rotations of the opposing team since the bench of Atlanta outclassed that of Boston: 46 to 17! An abyssal gap which inevitably weighed on the final result.
TOPS/FLOPS
✅ John Collins. He was, with Danilo Gallinari (14 points at 5/5), the most effective player in Nate McMillan’s training, finishing a small rebound from the double-double (21 points at 8/13 shooting, 9 rebounds) . He also distinguished himself by his communicative energy, especially with his 4 counters, including a huge one on Jayson Tatum. A valuable “energizer” for Atlanta…
✅ Bogdan Bogdanovic. The Serb symbolizes rather well the return to business of the Hawks for six games. With Clint Capela, the rear has long been missing in Atlanta in the first part of the season. And just like the Swiss, his return completely changes the situation, as demonstrated by his 19 points off the bench.
⛔ The failures of the Brown-Tatum pair. Difficult to claim something outside when your two leaders make so much waste. Rather than Jayson Tatum’s 2/8 from 3-point and Jaylen Brown’s 2/9, we will remember the 12 cumulative ball losses of the two Boston stars. Far too many, while the rest of the team only conceded 4!
