There was a bonus piece of information when the Grizzlies announced their return to Vancouver. The jersey presented featured a brand new “Robinhood” patch on the chest.
This is the new “patch” sponsor that will be present on Memphis' jersey following the partnership concluded with the company specializing in stock trading and other financial services, also active in cryptocurrencies. The “Robinhood” brand will appear on the upper left part of the chest of each jersey and each uniform of the franchise, as well as on the field at the baseline at FedEx Forum.
This is the first time since 2021 that the Grizzlies have filled this advertising space on their jersey, after the end of their partnership with FedEx. The financial benefits of this style are nevertheless vital for a small market like Memphis, even if the positive “recent” results have helped to shine the name of the franchise.
Also sponsor of the Wizards
It was the mission of Ted Roberts, the Grizzlies' vice president of partnership marketing, who joined the organization last December, to find a collaboration to generate a new source of revenue that had been untapped for three years. The Robinhood company already works with the Wizards, who will also benefit from the same patch for next season, so the agreement was concluded fairly quickly.
“It’s a big piece of the arsenal that teams need and are looking for in terms of revenue goals. When we don’t have that type of partnership as a small market, it hurts a little bit. So it’s a big win for the organization.”, said Ted Roberts.
Beyond the financial aspect, Robinhood will also partner with the Grizzlies to do something positive for the local community. 60,000 Meals of Hope meal packages distributed to Memphis residents will be made available, as will programs around “financial education.”
