The great ambitions of Paolo Banchero

Stephen Curry, LeBron James and even Kevin Durant closer and closer to retirement from sports, a new generation is ready to take up the torch. It's that of Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Anthony Edwards all present in the playoffs, while their elders are already on vacation. To these three young talents, we can add the name of Paolo Banchero.

Certainly released in the first round, the former “Rookie Of The Year” impressed individually. Despite his inexperience, the Magic snatched a Game 7 against the Cavaliers and Paolo Banchero finished the series with 27 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4 assists per game! Certainly, there was a bit of waste (46% shooting success and 4.6 turnovers per game) but that still places him in a very exclusive club with LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

That of players aged 21 and under who completed a playoff series with at least 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Listening to him, he even preferred the rough game of the playoffs.

“In terms of environment and level, I really felt at home with a slower pace and the referees who allow more physical play in the playoffs” he assures. “Possessions are more important, and that suits me. I fell in love with it. We have a lot of guys who have winning in their blood (like Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs), and it's only a matter of time before that translates into success in the league. People need to watch us. We'll be there to take it all away. »

Become the best player in the NBA

Winning everything also works for individual rewards. Paolo Banchero seems sure of himself and sets no limits. Rookie Of The Year and All-Star, he doesn't want to stop there!

“The MVP is the trophy we dream of” recalls the strong winger. “I don’t think it’s unrealistic for me to get there one day. I try to be a complete player. I'm not there yet but I have a vision of myself: of a guy who has no weaknesses, no matter what side of the field he is on and who can do anything. When I was drafted, I had in mind to be the best rookie. I was nervous, in my second year, to be among everyone again and to be just another player. My mission is to be the best player in the league. »

To take a step forward, the Magic will need to recruit experienced players, particularly shooters to free up space for Paolo Banchero. This is good news, rumors are sending Klay Thompson to the Magic…

“We have to work on shooting to improve, whether it’s by recruiting or developing our guys. I don't know how the leaders will approach the issue. And you also need someone you can count on to organize the game,” deciphers Paolo Banchero. “We have talented players who can make shots and create plays with Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs and me. But I preferred to be a hub rather than playing ball in hand. »
