We can be the most legendary franchise in the NBA, with the Lakers, and no longer be a stronghold of the All-Star Game. It is the observation which is essential when one thinks of Boston and the All-Star Game.
After being the host city of the event for the first two years, in 1951 and 1952, then again in 1957 and finally in 1964, the Celtics and the city of Boston have not hosted the All-Star Game for 58 years!
According to information from the Boston Globefranchise owners Wyc Grousbeck and Steven Pagliuca have reportedly moved to bring the All-Star Game back to Massachusetts.
The city of Boston and the hall of the Celtics (partly renovated in recent years) are perfect to host such a weekend and in private, the NBA and Adam Silver would be delighted to see the stars of the league all reunited in Boston.
But then, why is it so sticky? Largely because the Celtics don’t own TD Garden. It’s the Bruins, in the NHL, who are, and the two franchises do not have perfect relations.
The leaders would have to negotiate with those of the Bruins, and probably put their hands in their pockets, for a result that would not bring much to the franchise, which seemed to slow down possible negotiations and thus explain why the Celtics are timid as soon as It’s about applying for the All-Star Game. Maybe even the city’s mayor, Michelle Wu, could step in and try to get everyone to agree.
If Boston enters the race, we will have to wait a few years anyway since the next All-Star Games will be organized in Salt Lake City in 2023, then in Indianapolis in 2024.
