There was no suspense between the Celtics and the Pistons. a match of extremes with 2022 finalists winning 128-112. After a first quarter played thoroughly, Jayson Tatum’s teammates were content to manage their lead to spend a quiet evening. After two minutes, the Celtics were already leading 10-2 with three 3-pointers already. Dwane Casey is already taking a time-out, aware that the evening is going to be long. And his players are not going to help him, since they miss 12 of their first 13 attempts! Fortunately, the “big guys” from Detroit are dynamic, and they take offensive rebound after offensive rebound. Under the impetus of a good Killian Hayes, this is what will allow them not to sink (29-21).
Then, place at the new festival of Sam Hauser. The new home shooter takes advantage of the collective of his teammates to punish from afar, and the gap swells to stabilize at 14 points at the break (63-49). Back from the locker room, Jayson Tatum wakes up, 3-point more precisely. He planted 16 points in the 3rd quarter, with four shots from afar. Al Horford imitates him and Boston takes off (86-69). It only remains to manage this lead, and after a flagrant foul from Isaiah Livers on Tatum, then a magnificent dive from Marcus Smart, the Celtics pass the 20-point lead (112-91). Final score: 128-112. The Pistons remain last in the Eastern Conference, tied with the Hornets.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– Boston grows its five. Surprise in the starting five since Joe Mazzulla had decided to start Grant Williams in place of Derrick White. The goal: to grow his five to match the size and athletic qualities of the young Pistons. A winning choice since the Celtics got off to a great start.
– The release of Malcolm Brogdon. Only downside of the evening for Boston, the injury of Brogdon. We don’t know if it’s serious but the Celtics rookie felt a spike behind his thigh in the first half, and he didn’t come back in the second half.
TOPS/FLOPS
✅ The Jay’s. It’s hard to separate Jayson Tatum from Jaylen Brown. Once again, they accumulate 60 points and more, and they have the art of hitting each in turn. It’s Brown who shines in the 1st half, and it’s Tatum who takes over in the 3rd quarter. They play more without the ball than in other years, and that allows them to be fairer: a lost ball only between them.
✅ Sam Hauser. What a great find for the Celtics, especially after Danilo Gallinari’s injury. He’s a pure shooter, but not only… He doesn’t just stay in the corners, and he doesn’t hesitate to attack the circle. From match to match, he gained in confidence, and therefore in playing time: 32 minutes last night. Every time Detroit tried to come closer, it punished them.
✅ Killian Hayes. We are no longer going to ignite and believe in the click, but rarely have we seen the Frenchman so liberated in his game. He took initiative on initiative, and he was rewarded with his 16 points at 7 out of 12 on shots. His good times with Jaden Ivey may have given ideas to his coach.
⛔️ Cade Cunningham. Nightmare evening for the great leader of the Pistons with a 1 in 11 on shots! His start to the match is catastrophic, and Marcus Smart simply ate him up.
