The Celtics in a state of grace

Playing at Madison Square Garden always inspires players, and sometimes that motivation is collective. Last night, the Celtics broke a franchise record there with 27 3-point successes, 66% on shots! A deluge that ended up disgusting the Knicks, beaten 133-118 in their room. For Marcus Smart, it is the reward of an intact collective and an unshakable confidence in the group.

“It was incredible. The coach simply told us: ‘Don’t get tired, we are playing well.’ I think all the coaches repeat that, but seeing him in action is a wonderful thing… It’s good for us. It’s good for our players to put their shots. It’s good for the team to see what we can achieve when we play like that. We have to keep telling ourselves that, and keep working. »

The best thing about this record is that it is the result of a good movement of the beautiful with 30 assists. On back-to-back, the Celtics hit straight in, and then they were able to deal with helpless Knicks comeback attempts.

“That’s a lot of 3-pointers” observes RJ Barrett. “Sometimes a team has a hot hand, and it’s hard to beat a team that puts 27. But we fought, and there was nothing more we could do. »

Sam Hauser, the new in-house sniper

Deprived of its two interior holders (Robert Williams and Al Horford), the Celtics had therefore bet on outside shooting, and the nine players who came into play scored at least one award-winning basket. Among them, there is Sam Hauser who signs his best career game with 17 points, 5 out of 8 from afar.

“Once you put the first two on, it kinda unlocks things” reacts the surprise guest of the Boston workforce. “Clearly, I was confident, I’m starting to feel comfortable, to know these guys better and to know where I have to place myself. So I will continue to play with them and do my part of the job. »

And when you have Jayson Tatum as your first supporter, it’s much easier to feel confident. “I said, ‘Sam, you’re playing basketball now. Sam, I don’t know if you would have done that last season'” says the Celtics’ star winger. “I think it shows how much he gave his all over the summer to get this opportunity and make the most of it. »

Signed on the line to compensate for the absence of Danilo Gallinari, Sam Hauser is averaging 6.4 points with a nice 55% in 3-point shots.
