The Cavaliers' 3-point address is serious

If the Cavaliers managed to dominate the uninspired Nuggets but carried by a big Nikola Jokic, author of a huge triple-double, it is largely thanks to a formidable efficiency at 3-points. They actually shot 22/48, or 46% success. This is remarkable for such a quantity of successful shots.

But this is not a surprise since the Cleveland franchise is the most skillful in the NBA in this exercise with 40.5% success – ahead of the 40.1% of the Knicks or the 39.1% of the Bucks. And the most skillful overall, with 50.9% shooting success.

“This far into the season, it’s starting to get serious. We can be described as an excellent shooting team”, rejoices the coach of the Ohio franchise, Kenny Atkinson.

Danger is everywhere for defenses

Certainly, the Celtics are more prolific (because they shoot much, much further) with 19.1 successes per game (51 attempts on average) compared to the 15.4 winning baskets of the Cavaliers (38.4 attempts on average), but with their skill, the league leaders compensate perfectly and the main thing is elsewhere: the philosophy is established, the spacing is good and danger can arise from anywhere.

“It helps us to take actions, to have spaces, in our way of moving, in our rhythm. We are unpredictable: we never know where the players will be placed,” explains Donovan Mitchell. “We have a lot of open shots and, again, that helps the players. Many shoot well, but we also have players who can go in the paint, so we can mix the two. It's difficult to defend against that. »

Proof that the threat exists and that shooters are everywhere: five Cavaliers players (who attempt at least one 3-point shot per game) shoot at more than 40%: Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Caris LeVert, Isaac Okoro and Ty Jerome. As for Sam Merrill and Georges Niang, they have a 35% success rate, like Evan Mobley, who is not a specialist. Against the Nuggets, no less than eight players found the target behind the arc!

“We have to respect our outside shooting. And a lot of it comes from the bench. We know the main forces, with Mitchell and Garland, but we have Ty Jerome and Evan Mobley who scored against Denver. What I like is that these are quality shoots. We are among the best in this field,” congratulates Kenny Atkinson.
