After starting the season with three losses, the Blazers are doing much better, and last night, they signed a third victory in a row to return to balance. An almost logical success, since Deandre Ayton’s teammates won 115-113 (ap) against the Grizzlies, who still have not unlocked their Victories counter after six matches.
However, Desmond Bane’s teammates thought they had done the hardest part by leading by 10 points three minutes from the end (100-90) with a dunk from David Roddy. But the Blazers, although deprived of the Henderson-Simons tandem, will react, to the point of signing a 10-2 to return to -2 thanks to two free throws from Malcolm Brogdon.
Sharpe decisive in attack and defense
There are 46 seconds left to play. After a missed 3-point shot from Desmond Bane, Jerami Grant misses his 3-pointer in the corner, and after a confused action on the rebound, the referees give the ball to the Blazers. There are 12 seconds left, and Shaedon Sharpe decides to attack the rim. Roddy’s foul, and Sharpe sends everyone into overtime after his 2 out of 2 on free throws (102-102), but also and above all his counter on Luke Kennard’s last shot.
In overtime, the Grizzlies will crack, and it’s Sharpe again who hits, especially at 3-points. Jerami Grant, forgotten in the middle, imitates him to give a four-point lead 39 seconds from the end (112-108). Behind, Xavier Tillman signs a nasty air-ball under the circle, then makes the mistake. The Brogdon-Sharpe duo ensures Portland’s victory on free throws, and the two teams will meet again on Sunday.
TO REMEMBER
The technique that hurts. Author of a monstrous “poster” on two Blazers, Ziaire Williams took a severe technique 50 seconds from the end. So severe, that she gave two free throws to Brogdon to bring the Blazers to -2.
Reunion between former Celtics. Before the meeting, Marcus Smart jumped into the arms of Robert Williams, his former Celtics teammate. A big hug also with Malcolm Brogdon, also transferred this summer by Boston.
Blockorama. The two teams combined for 17 blocks, with 10 on the Grizzlies side, and 7 on the Blazers side. Best defender in the NBA, Jaren Jackson Jr. signs 3, like Desmond Bane. The two also combine 63 of the 113 points in their training.
