The Black Fives, the pioneers of American basketball

They are a bit forgotten in the history of American basketball. Before 1950, black players were not admitted to the NBA. But where were they? They were good on the floors. And encouraged some evenings by thousands of spectators

From 1904 to 1950, they played in what we now call the Black Fives. On the East Coast of the United States, these pioneers laid the foundations of basketball in the African-American community.

And it’s their story that we tell you today in Histoire(s) de Basket.
