Terry Stotts and James Borrego on Adrian Griffin’s staff at the Bucks?

With the arrival of Frank Vogel at the Suns, there is now only one vacant head coach position in the NBA, that of the Raptors. In Milwaukee, the announcement between Adrian Griffin’s choice and his signing took longer than expected, but The Athletic ensures however, it is imminent.

Nick Nurse’s former assistant at the Raptors is expected to earn about $4 million per season, a far cry from the $13 million that Monty Williams will earn with the Pistons. It’s an average salary, even in the low average, for current coaches in the NBA.

From now on, Adrian Griffin will have to compose his staff, and The Athletic explains that as often when an assistant is named “head coach”, the club wishes to surround him with experienced coaches.

“Offensive” profiles

Especially since in Milwaukee, we are not in reconstruction, and with Giannis Antetokounmpo in the workforce, we are aiming for the title every year. This is how the club would like to sign James Borrego and Terry Stotts to help Adrian Griffin in his first year as head coach in the Big League.

Former assistant to Gregg Popovich, the first was first “head coach” of the Magic for a few months, before mainly leading the Hornets from 2018 to 2022, without however knowing the playoffs.

The second is even more experienced since he was George Karl’s assistant for a long time at the Sonics and the Bucks, then Rick Carlisle at the Mavericks, where he was champion in 2011. From 2012 to 2021, he was then “head coach” of the Blazers, qualifying the team in the playoffs eight times in a row, with a conference final in 2019.

James Borrego and Terry Stotts are both coaches focused on the attack, enough to compensate for the strengths of Adrian Griffin, who for his part has almost always been a defensive specialist in the NBA.
