Television | From Monday, the NBA will be able to negotiate with Apple, Netflix or Amazon

The NBA has until Monday to sign a new TV agreement with its historic broadcasters, Disney And Warner Bros. Discovery. If nothing is signed by then, negotiations will be open to other companies.

And according to CNBC, no one is really in a hurry. In 2014, the NBA and its broadcasters had nevertheless negotiated their new contract five months before the end of the period of exclusive negotiations, the league taking the opportunity to explode its revenues when ESPN, TNT and ABC ensured the exclusivity of the broadcast of meetings.

But ten years later, the situation has changed considerably in the sports rights market. Certainly, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery does not intend to let go of the NBA for their traditional channels, sport having become the major appeal product for linear television (live) and its advertisers, but the league wants to bring in competition in order to double or even triple the amount broadcasting rights.

This agreement should in any case be much more complex than the previous one, Amazon, Apple, YouTube TV, NBC And Netflix being able to collect different prizes, such as the broadcast of the NBA Cup.

Still according to information from CNBC, the NBA wants a partner ” robust “ on the streaming market, which will highlight and promote its meetings.
