No question of experiencing another disappointment. Eight months after its “historic” defeat against Cuba, Team USA announces a reshuffled squad to take part in the new AmeriCup qualifying window.
While all teams in Group D have a win and a loss, the Americans face Puerto Rico in Washington on November 22, then the Bahamas three days later.
The American team will do it with a few numbers known to the Great League. Starting with Robert Covington, Keita Bates-Diop and Frank Kaminsky. All three men will make their debut for Team USA.
Patrick Ewing on the bench
Perhaps the opportunity for them to catch the eye of an NBA franchise. The first, in decline for several years, did not convince anyone after his move to the Sixers last year. The second, included in the exchange around Karl-Anthony Towns, was not kept by the Wolves, while the third had a touch with the Suns.
The rest of the squad, which features players from past qualifying windows, includes Henry Ellenson, Dusty Hannahs, Nate Hinton, Jahmi'us Ramsey, Chasson Randle, Javonte Smart, David Stockton, Paul Watson and Malik Williams.
Everything will be coached by Stephen Silas, with Patrick Ewing and Keith Smart as assistants. A third qualification window will take place in February 2025. The top three in each group qualify for the AmeriCup which will take place next August in Nicaragua.
