Recruited by Matt Walsh, president of the New Zealand Breakers, during the NBL club's tour of the United States before the resumption of the championship in September, Tacko Fall had not yet been able to take part in any matches for his new team, due to a quadriceps injury.
After completing his rehabilitation phase during the international window, the 2.29m pivot, seen in Boston and Cleveland between 2019 and 2022 (40 NBA matches played) is now back and will be able to play his first match in his new colors this Thursday against the Illawarra Hawks! Good news accompanied by another big announcement, his extension to the New Zealand Breakers until 2026.
Show yourself… to come back better in the NBA?
The officialization may come as a surprise, as Tacko Fall has not yet played a single match with the Breakers. But the management staff of the club located in New Zealand are convinced that their giant will be a great contribution to the team, as has been the case since his arrival, off the field until now.
“His size, ability to block and rebound give him a unique advantage”, said the general manager of the Breakers. “He is a player who cares about the team above all and has an incredible work ethic. He has worked hard to get back into shape and we are happy to see him fully integrated into our team.”
In order to make room for him at position 5, the Breakers released their current starting pivot Freddie Gillespie, who left for Olimpia Milano. At 28 years old, Tacko Fall has not yet given up on the NBA and indicated that he hoped that the exposure of the Australian championship would allow him to show himself.
“I'm a much better player today than I was a few years ago when I left the NBA“, he said. “The idea is to use this opportunity to get back in shape, because you never know what can happen.
It will be up to him to show what he is capable of, particularly in fast-paced phases of play or in open defense, all in a championship referenced after two years spent in China (CBA).
