Spencer Dinwiddie will not receive his bonus of one dollar after the elimination against the Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs. It was a clause that he had added, in the event of a Los Angeles title, when he signed his contract with the Lakers for the rest of the season. And here he is soon (again) a “free agent”.
The problem is that Spencer Dinwiddie did not make an impression during his time in Los Angeles. Over the entire playoff series, he averaged only 3 points and 1.6 assists while playing 14.6 minutes per game. But his management is part of management's criticism of Darvin Ham, who was unable to choose between the former Nets and Gabe Vincent, alternating between the two without either managing to get into rhythm. …
Asked whether he would see himself staying with the Lakers, Spencer Dinwiddie remains cautious.
“I’m not someone who has my destiny in my hands all the time”, he admits like this. “It’s not my status in the league so we’ll have to see what happens. But if the Lakers want me back, I would love to come back. I've said before that it was a childhood dream and that I could play in my hometown, see my parents at every game, stuff like that, and you couldn't imagine anything better. I played alongside arguably the greatest player of all time, right? There's really nothing better than that. »
A realistic Spencer Dinwiddie
The end of the season was, however, difficult for Spencer Dinwiddie, who never found his place in the Darvin Ham squad. From this end of the regular season, we will just remember his decisive counter on Damian Lillard.
“I feel like I was really selfless, I took a role, I tried to play defense as best I could, I tried to help, I had a good time and we will see what the future has in store for us,” thus analyzes the former player of the Nets, Mavericks, Pistons and Wizards.
Spencer Dinwiddie knows that his destiny is not in his hands anyway, especially with the elimination of the Lakers in the first round. “ You know how it is. For the Lakers it’s title or failure,” he states thus. “So changes will probably be made and all that in order to win the title. Obviously, if I can be a part of it, it will be another dream come true. »
With the ousting of Darvin Ham and the media machine around the future of LeBron James in motion, the return of Spencer Dinwiddie is not really the priority for the Lakers anyway.
